Hi! I'm Lynn Smith-Reeve, the new minister (as of July 2016) at Bethany Pontypool United Churches.
In April 2016 I graduated from the Diaconal Ministry program at the Centre for Christian Studies, which is the United Church training school for diaconal ministers.
My faith journey has taken me through the evangelical church world and to the United Church in 2008. Although I was a part of some larger churches along the way, I found myself most comfortable in smaller ones - where people actually get to know one another. And I am a country person! I have mostly lived in small towns or out in the country and spent much of my adult life in and around Bobcaygeon.
I'm a mom and a grandma and married to Allan Reeve-Smith, who is the minister at Greenwood United Church in Donwood, just outside Peterborough. Together we also work at Bedford House in Peterborough, a new ministry initiative - a faith-based learning centre, with a focus on training lay people in the church, reconciliation, and other social justice work.
In my "former life" I was a home-educator for 21 years, teaching my five children from pre-kindergarten to grade 12. I was also a caregiver for over 15 years, providing support to my first husband, who became a chronically disabled man. Hospital and emergency room routines are very familiar to me. During those years, my family lived on ODSP so I am well experienced with the challenges of dealing with Ontario's social assistance system and have a good understanding of "how the system works" ... and doesn't work.
I enjoy reading and learning, gardening, nature, water-colour painting, and walking. And I enjoy people!
I'll have a regular office day at Bethany United Church and would be just so pleased for you to stop in and say "Hi".
